Research Abstract |
The purpose of our research is to clarify the social mechanism of "invisibility" and "marginalization" of the woman in the process of an environmental problems and environmental movement from the gender perspectives. 1. The concept of "invisibiilty" and "marginalization" was examined. 2. As for the concept of this "invisibility" and "marginalization", we examined it comparison with the current thought of ecofeminism based on the Modern world-System theory which was made up by Maria Mies, Claudia von Werlhof, Veronika Bennholdt-Thomsen. 3. At that time, we especially paid to attention to their concept of subsistence and examined the situation of "invisibility" and "marginalization" of women based on a concrete case. The case is a protest campaign against the new airport construction planned in the Ishigaki City of Okinawa Prefecture. People opposed the reclamation of the sea in the coral reef and making a new airport. Through the analysis of the protest campaign, we found out the fact of woman's "invisibility" and "marginalization". And also, we were able to point out that neither "invisibility" nor "marginalization" of women had been made a problem though "invisibility" and "marginalization" of local had been clarified in an environmental sociological research by men's researcher who had treated the same case. It is thought that the gender bias existed here. 4. We have done theoretical comparative study while comparing Commons theories in environmental sociology of Japan and ecofeminism based on the cases. We were able to find a point of contact between the Subsistence concept of edofeminism and the Common theory. 5. We additionally arranged the material that related to the Toroku mineral pollution affair which the existence clearly became by the process of the investigation of our research.
