Outline of Annual Research Achievements

垂直加振下の濃厚懸濁液における界面不安定性についての実験はいつくかあるが、理論的な研究はほとんどされていないのが現状である。私はこれまでの研究でJ.M.Schleier-Smithらにより発見されていたheapingという界面不安定性のモデル方程式を提案していた。これまでのモデルでは粘性のみを考えていたが、弾性も考慮した場合を考えた。その結果、弾性が支配的であり応力の時間遅れが大きい場合は、界面不安定性が現れる分岐点において、サブクリティカル分岐がスーパークリティカル分岐に変わることをモデルから示した。さらに我々は垂直加振と共に横加振が加えられている場合、heapingが水平方向へドリフトすることをモデルの数値計算により示した。また、擬二次元的な容器を使いheapingの実験を行った結果、垂直加振と共に横加振を加えた場合heapingがドリフトすることを発見した。また、モデルで得られたheapingのドリフトの速さや方向が実験結果と定性的にあっているということを示した。
次に粉粒体におけるサイズ分離現象において自発的に分裂するパターンを発見した。擬二次元的な細長い容器の中に大きさの異なる二種類の粉体を2cm 程度の深さに入れ、容器の細長い面に平行に水平方向に振とうすることを行った。その結果、二種類の粒子は相分離を起こし、縞状のパターン（バンド）を形成することがわかった。さらに、二種類の粉体のサイズ比や水平振とうの振動数を変えることで単調緩和、進行波、自己複製するバンドなど様々なダイナミクスが観察された。自己複製するバンドについて時空間プロットを作成したところ、一次元の自己複製系の数値計算において発見されているシルピンスキーギャスケットと同様のダイナミクスを発見した。実験におけるこのようなシルピンスキーギャスケット状の時空間パターンは初めての報告である。
