Research Abstract

N型CCD素子の要素技術(ノイズ、空乏層厚、電荷転送効率)の完成を見たので,一昨年より撮像領域30mm×30mmのフレームトランスファCCD素子の開発を行っている.昨年度から今年度にかけてこの素子の試作をおこなった.読みだしノイズは6.5e(RMS)で,5.9keV X線に対するエネルギー分解能137eV(FWHM)を得た.空乏層厚みは,物理的な厚み200μmに矛盾しない結果がX線検出効率実験より得られている.電荷転送効率も問題なく,CTIとして5x10^-6を実現した.
「すざく」XISは、これまで打ち上げられたX線天文衛星の中でもっとも高い性能を備えるX線CCDである.この軌道上の性能とその時間変化は,本特定領域のX線CCD素子開発に対して極めて貴重なデータである.XISは電荷注入と呼ばれる,他のX線天文衛星にはない機能を備えている.本研究ではXISの軌道上キャリブレーションと新しい電荷注入機能による性能評価と回復の実証を行った.また,軌道上キャリブレーションの結果は解析ソフトの形で公開し,世界中の「すざく」ユーザーに提供している.
CCDは軌道上の放射線により性能が劣化するが,それを回復する以下の積極的な方法を開発した.電荷トラップによる電荷転送効率の低下を防ぐために,XISの露光開始前に,撮像領域上部に取付けられた専用レジスタから制御された量の電荷を,一定の間隔で撮像領域に注入する(スペースドロウ電荷注入).先行する人工電荷が電荷トラップを埋めることで,X線イベントが作る電荷を保護する.
我々は,電荷注入による性能改善を実証すべく,2006年8月に機上動作試験を実施した.その結果電荷注入時には,5.9keV X線に対する分解能が210eVから140eVに改善されていること,つまりXISのドア開け直後とほぼ同じ性能まで回復していることが確かめられた.
