Research Abstract |
(1) Our project in the academic year of 2005 aims to prepare for the final publication of our 4-year researches and presentations. The following is the list of those who have been participated in our publication due the end of September, 2005. Hiroko Washizu "Earlier Days of Sperm Whale Fishery-Moby-Dick and the Establishment of Whaling Ships on Sea" Yoichiro Miyamoto "Projecting Postwar Knowledge : The OSS/OWI Scholarship during World War II" Masazumi Araki "July 2, 1903 ; Car Race, Taxi, Yacht" Takashi Nakada "Metamorphosis of the Musical Instrument-Music, Language, Body" Elisabeth Balestrieri "Epistemology and Poetry : The Changing Face(s) of David Mura" Yoshinari Yamaguchi "Travelling Historian-Francis Parkman's Historical Derscription" (2) A Symposium was held on September 23, 2005, on the "Epistemological Framework and Literature in English" at Otsuka Campus of the University of Tsukuba. The main speakers are : Kenichi Sato, Hiroko Washizu and Yoichiro Miyamoto (3) Our project team was officially recognized as the Tsukuba School of Americanists (【○!C】Koji O'i)) at the Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of American Literature held at Hokkai-Gakuen University (Sapporo) on October 15, 2005. (4) Hiroko Washizu published her 10-year project : Daughters of Time : Art and Nature in Antebellum American Prose (Nanundo, 2005). Her academic paper, "Mapping the Fictitious : Edgar Allan Poe's The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym and the Verifiability of Testimony in the Antarctic Explorations," was published in Klaus Stierstorger ed., Return to Postmodernism (Heidelberg : Winter, 2005).
