Research Abstract |
In this research, synchronized measurements of the voltage phase of many points are carried out using the time synchronized signal from GPS Satellites for the purpose of carrying out on-line observation of the wide area dynamic characteristics of the power system. Eight places in west 60Hz power system and two places in east 50Hz power system were selected, all of which are in university campuses. As a result, an observation system for power system wide area dynamic characteristics covering the whole Japan (except Hokkaido and Okinawa) was built, Characteristic analysis in various kinds of power swing modes was conducted focusing on the stability of power swing mode with a low frequency. Many natural disasters such as typhoon and earthquakes accompanying power system accidents occurred in 2004 fiscal year, and caused comparatively large-scale disturbances to the power system, where the broad propagation characteristic of frequency change was analyzed Moreover, the technique of observing

power system wide area stability* was established by proposing a coupled oscillation model and identifying the coefficient of the model as a method of presuming the index of wide area stability, from fluctuation of the phase angle, using an observation result, This result applied as patents. Moreover, in discussion with the researchers of Thailand, while having recognized that a power oscillation has been a problem with an upper discussion on a visit, the technique built by this research was applied and the preliminary experiment which observes the power swing characteristic of the power system of Thailand was carried out. As a result, a wide area oscillation mode with insufficient stability existed have been observed. This result will be advanced to concrete research cooperation as an international joint project. Under the situation where the deregulation of power industry is in progress, the important results of research, such as identification of a frequency control characteristic and system stability diagnosis in electric power dealings, were obtained.
