Research Abstract

This study attempted to apply two active control theories by introducing output feedback control and H-infinity control to traffic-induced vibration of bridge models. The efficiency and accuracy of the active controls were confirmed through model experiments. Furthermore, in order to clarify the control effect for the actual bridges, a theoretical analysis of the active controls were carried out based on the data of a response of Umeda Entrance Bridge of Hanshin Expressway due to a large dump truck. The applicability and accuracy of two active controls were discussed with a comparison of control results. From the results of output feedback control and H-infinity control, it was found that H-infinity control could reduce the bending vibration and coupled vibration of bending and torsion more effective than output feedback control.
Another attempt was made to confirm the effectiveness of the active control for the vibration of a footbridge induced by pedestrian loads. The observation foot … More bridge with span length of 30.1m and width of 3.4m often occurs complaints about an uncomfortable vibration. The bridge is located in front of a big event hall, in which many pedestrians use the footbridge during events. To solve this problem, first, the actual vibration range was examined from questionnaire results of feeling vibration in the field experiment. Second, the appropriate walking force model that matches the field experimental result was investigated among several walking force models. Finally, control analyses were carried out by applying tuned mass damper (TMD), output feedback control, H-infinity control and Fuzzy control. From the results, it was found that the TMD could not reduce the vibration induced by crowd walking. It was also clarified that all active controls could reduce effectively the vibration that was not reduced by TMD.
