| Research Abstract |
1.Recognition of architects towards the meaning of 'Creative Reuse'
'Creative Reuse' is regarded as neither the act of museum-like exhibition nor the arbitrary alteration of the physical armature of existing buildings, but a new field of creation to originate ideas as a result of 'dialogue' with them. It is based on the view to read human thinking and values into the existing buildings. Good examples have transformed their historic and cultural values into the economic and social ones, and have focused on long neglected spaces and produced the public value.
2.Design method of 'Creative Reuse'
On one hand 'Principle of separation of inside and outside' exists especially in New York City. This principle guarantees the free alteration of the interior in exchange of the preservation of the exterior, and therefore forms the background of producing a strong contrast between inside and the outside design. On the other hand there exists a critical attitude to the preservation of the exterior only, especially in Zurich, where pursued direction is more to integrate inside and outside to express juxtaposition of the new and old.
'Creative Reuse' is an art of 'dialogue', somehow similar to the interpretation of theater or music performance. It is a field of creation that will be increasingly important in the 21^<st> century.
