Research Abstract |
We analyzed the location of pacemaker neurons of mastication like activities. We used neonatal rats. Brainstem block preparation in vitro technique was used. 3types preparations were performed. 1.Only trigeminal motor nucleus(NOSP), 2.Coronal section of brainstem, including trigeminal motor nucleus (400 μm thickness)(WSP), 3.trigeminal motor nucleus with surrounding tissue 300 μm width.(ISP) Rhythmical mastication-like activities were induced with N-methyl-D, L-aspartic acid(NMA) and bicuculline methiodide(BIC) in WSP and ISP. In NOSP, tonic bursting was recognized. These data suggested the pacemaker neurons exist in the surrounding tissue of trigeminal motor nucleus. Membrane potentials of premotoneurons in the surrounding tissue were analyzed. 3types of premotoneurons were found in these area. 1.Only tonic discharges were recognized. 2.Non-rhythmical spikes were recognized. 3.Rhythmical spikes were recognized. We guess 3^<rd> type premotoneuron is related to pacemaking. The cells of this type are located at regio-h area, mesencepharic trigeminal nucleus and other surrounding area of trigeminal motor nucleus.
