Research Abstract |
The main purpose of this research is to form the FRC plasma, which is famous for its natural high-beta, by the application of the rotating magnetic field (RMF) inside the stainless chamber. By choosing the adequate rotating frequency, only ions are dragged by the field, and then toroidal current is produced. New power source is developed to generate the required RMF. It is composed from inverter circuit, air core transformer and LC tank circuit. The profile of the internal field is measured by the magnetic probe array. After the application of RMF, the strength of the bias field at its center axis becomes to be reversed, and its reversal continues as long as the RMF is applied. The relation of major radius and separatrix radius that are calculated from the measurement is found to be consistent with the theoretical equilibium relation. The produced current is proportional to the strength and the frequency of the applied RMF. Above experiments are performed in the condition without mirror field. The field reversal is measured at points where the RMF is not applied. So the produced toroidal current is found to diffuse spatialy.
