Research Abstract |
In this study, I investigated the settlement structure of the Mumun Pottery period and Proto Three Kingdoms period in South Korea, from the point of view of the class differentiation, and I got the following results. 1.In the early Mumun Pottery period, there were not only pit dwellings but also posthole-type buildings in central settlements on lowlands. But these settlements were prisided by a big building built on an each central open space for all people in the settlement, and had the centripetal structure. There was little difference of rank between groups in a settlement. 2.In the middle Mumun Pottery period, such structures were continued. But, the politic of "Kuni" also appeared in this period. Ditches were dig Between each group in the settlement, and the groups started to move for independence. Some of groups occupie d the big building. It is possible that some of central settlements had the double ditches which were the inner moat ditch and the outer moat ditch, and had the space for a high class. 3.In the late Mumun Pottery period, the structure of central settlement was not well known. But the many moat ditch settlement for religion on highland were known. Such settlements on the highland seems to appear in the middle Mumun Pottery period and thrive in the late Mumun Pottery period. There was also the military settlement that made and hold many stone arrowheads. 4.In the late Proto Three Kingdoms period, a square-type moat ditch certainly existed for high class. Important establishments were enclosed in there. Seeing from the system of iron axes production, those ditches maybe exist in the early Proto Three Kingdoms period.
