Research Abstract |
Deep sea polychaetes and vestimentiferans collected from Indo-Pacifice areas were taxonomically studies with therie relatives konown from the world-wide areas. The first year was spent to make collections from divers area of the world. The author could dive at Hakuho Knollo in Indian Ocean using DSRV Shinkai 6500. The surveyed area is a part of so-cold Rodriguez Triple Junction, one of the most tectonically active deep sea bottom in Indean Ocean. The landing place of this dive was the rippled sandy bottom at a depth of 2448 m, not far from the kairei field. Then on the way to Kali chimney, we found a chimney called Kissho. We collected animals near this chimney using a slurp gun. Large gastropods and bythograeid crabs(Austinograea rodriguezensis), dead shell of Alviniconhca, were collected, however a serious trouble wasa taken place and could not continue. Then some other specimens of bivalves and gastropods were sampled using manipulator, but without any polychaete specimens. Thus the

polychaete specimens recored from this deep-sea hydrothermal field were all colledted by the other researchers dives of DSRV. A polynoids polychaete species very close to Pacific one of the genus Branchipolynoe were recored from the area. From off Hatsushima cold seap area in Sagami Bay, we could recored several species of polychaetes, such as Nereis surgaense, Euclymene uncinata, Maldane cristata, Lumbrineris japonica, Eunice mucronata, Paraonides nipponica. On the other hand, in the collection made from Minami Ensei Knoll, Okinawa Trough, I could find an undescribed species of the genus Eunice and prepared a description to submit a scientific journal. On the way of revision of the family Nautileniellidae, I could compare two species supplied by foreign coworkers and found them new to science. Thus Vesicomycola trifurcates was described and the description of the other is now printing. Very recently (, the author could observe vestimentiferans species collected from Brother Caldera, near New Zealand. These species are also recognized as new to science and now on the way of study.
