Research Abstract |
This research aims to develop the methodology and tool that help mapping between models of different applications, by utilizing the framework of STEP or the international standard for the representation of product model data. The research plans development of (a) the framework to help the interpretation, (b) methods to assist the mapping between different product models, (c) methods to assist the description of constraints to realize the information requirements and (d) methods to cope with instances for validation of the interpretation. Following are the results of this research; 1. A tool is developed to help the mapping of models by using the concepts and technologies of STEP. It generates the mapping information in various forms based on the graphical input of mapping information between different models. 2. Methods are developed to assist the mapping based on the analysis of the mapping between product models. 3. Based on the comparison between EXPRESS-G diagram and UML class diagram, a graphical tool is developed for editing UML class diagram. 4. Function is developed to display the cardinality along reference paths in order to assist the mapping between cardinality relations. It utilizes the comparison of cardinalities in product models. 5. For the cases of structural mapping without constraints or branches of reference paths; codes of model conversion description' language EXPRESS-N are generated based on the mapping information acquired by. the tool. The generation method is validated by the conversion of data from STEP standard using a commercial conversion software based on EXPRESS-X. Results of the research contribute to facilitate the data exchange and sharing among different applications. 'Remaining issues -include the development of methods for advanced description method of constraints and handling of instances.
