Research Abstract |
A wide and highly sensitive thermoluminescent (TL) sheet film was used for 2-dimensional dose distribution measurements at millimeter distances from a I-125 interstitial brachytherapy source. The relative dose characteristic (i. e., radial dose function and anisotropy function, as defined by the updated AAPM Task Group No. 43 report) with TL sheet were agreed well with those recommended in the updated AAPM TG-43 report. In addition, two dimensional dosimetric characterization measurements were performed on ^<90>Sr/Y β-emitter source trains and ^<192>Ir source trains using a TL sheet. The results indicate that the TL sheet is of potential uses in the determination of relative dose characteristics of various IVB beta and photon emitter sources in the sub-millimeter distances, and offers the advantage of higher sensitivity and a Wider dynamic range over radiochromic film. In order to determine the optimal configuration for intravascular brachytherapy source rains, GA algorithm with parallel process have been developed. The speed up as performance of the system increased almost linearly with number of processor.
