Research Abstract |
We investigated effects of DHEA(S) on the progression of life style-related diseases. DHEA and insulin resistance : DHEA activated P13-kinase and atypical PKC in rat adipocytes. Since these activation induced glucose uptake, DHEA may improve insurin resistance in the insulin target organs. DHEA and obesity : DHEA decreased the expression levels of PPAR and triglyceride volume through the suppression of mRNA levels in adipocyte lipid-binding protein and sterol regulatory element-binding protein. DHEA might have an important roles in function of adipocytes. DHEA and breast cancer : DHEA increased the human breast cancer cell proliferation as a mitogen, which was diminished with 4-hydroxyandrostendione inhibiting aromatase enzyme. DHEA administration might have an advantage to prevent some of life style-related diseases like obesity and diabetes mellitus.
