Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the thickness of soft lining materials on clinical evaluation, and the relation between clinical evaluation and thickness of oral mucosa. After obtaining informed consent, 4edentulous patients participated in this study. The thicknesses of soft lining materials based on test-dentures were 1mm and 2mm. The thicknesses of oral mucosa was measured using SDMI The test-dentures were clinically evaluated by measuring masticatory performance by the sieving method, and the value of the occlusal contact area, occlusal force and stability of track of center offorce using T-Scan II system. The results were as follow 1.The thicknesses showed a tendency to be thinner on the lingual side rather than at alveolar crest 2.The thickness of soft lining materials has no influence on the masticatory performance. 3. There were no significant difference between the value of the occlusal contact area and that of the ocelusal force between 1mm and2 mm thicknesses. 4.Only a minor relation was found between the clinical evaluation and the thickness of oral mucosa.
