Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to develop a scale of competence to manage family life for people living with a chronically ill individual and to examine its practical use. Components of competence were derived from a literature review about "management" in business administration and nursing research, and items were devised from operation of these components. Based on examination for content validity and face validity of items, scale was developed comprising 76 items rated along a 5-point Likert scale. Data were collected from adult members of families living with chronically ill individuals. As a result of analysis, actual situation of competence for these families became clear. Further, from interview with nurses who were expert at a care of these families, it was proved that a competence is found out also in actual examples. In this research, there were few candidates and it was not able to verify enough about the reliability and validity of a scale. In the family whom nurses consider "the family who has demonstrated competence", 9 components of competence were found out it is able to set the viewpoint of competence to manage family life to one of the effective viewpoints which understand the family living with chronically ill individual.
