Research Abstract |
This study attempted to improve a Kendo headgear(men) in safety. In 2002 and 2003,To clarify, from a biomechanical viewpoint, the impacts on men and tsuki transmitted through the Kendo protective gear to the human body, this study attempted to measure changes in accelerations, loads, and moments in attacks to the head and neck of dummies and actual human subjects, and to investigate the safety of the Kendo headgear(men) in protecting the human head based on the JARI human head impact tolerance curve. In 2004,the buffer efficiency of men against the striking impact by the difference of materials, sewing method, and structure of men-buton which is the upper part of men was investigated, and the idea about the improvement of safer men was proposed. The following results were obtained : 1.A men attack at the distance of one step and one attack (issoku-itto) has the lowest possibility of damage by acceleration among the three patterns of attack because of the low acceleration level. 2.A single impact to the head is not serious enough to cause damage such as a cranial fracture or cerebral concussion. However, because continuous or long-term impacts could cause chronic subdural hematoma, further investigations are necessary. 3.The thrust action has low possibility of head damage due to acceleration because the acceleration level is low. 4.Using cotton with sufficient air as the core material for a men-buton of the kendo headgear(men) and sewing the men-button with large stitches lead to promote more buffer efficiency. 5.In order to weaken the direct impact on parietal of the head, a men was improved by covering the surface of men-buton with a cowhide which is used for men-buchi, and connecting the leather to men-buchi directly, to improve the front of men-buton in protection.
