Research Abstract |
This research project examines the fashion information media, especially in modem Japan, and medieval and modern Europe, in order to clarify their characteristics, and differences in the transmission of information : 1 Cultural representation in terms of the Tenpyo-era costume, which was loved by the Modern Japan, was a visualized announcement of the future of the "East Asia", which was originally a cultural concept. In other words, fashion as "visualized information" in Modem Japan functioned strongly as a political medium for spreading an intended strategic concept throughout the nation as well as a sensuous medium for representing culture and taste. 2 In Europe, the inter courtly community through marriage, festivities and artistic activities in the Middle Ages, and the publication of embleme books after the 16^<th> century contributed to the establishment of the pan-European popularity of the designs based on the devices such as the tear pattern. In the 19^<th> century, the correlation among historical costume, theatre and arts characterize fashion transmission during the Romantic era in Paris. 3 The color symbolism of Cesare Ripa's Iconologia (first edition : 1593) is based on the 15^<th>-16^<th> century Italian and French Treatises on color. These treatises influenced not only the representation clothing worn by characters in art and literature, but also the color mode in of Modern European Costumes as a medium of fashion information.
