Research Abstract |
In this research, the followings were discussed. When science education in primary schools and secondary schools had started actually in Japan in 1880's, Newtonian science and Corpuscularism were diffused by demonstrating some experiments. It had not only followed the science textbooks of England and United States in those days which taught Newtonian science. There was also the tradition of introduction of science by Dutch scholars in the end of Edo era., Precisely, introduction of those textbooks of W.J.s'Gravesande and P.v.Musschenbroek. Those were Newtonians as well as J.T.Desaguliers who delivered public science lectures. Japanese intellectuals had been acquainted with Newtonian Science before Meiji era.. And then, science educators in Meiji era. felt the keen necessity to demonstrate the experiments about mechanics and nature of matter. The parts of this result were reported ‘The Reception of Newtonian Corpuscularism in Japan -A case study of Experiments on Cohesion of Matter -.'SIC XXI Athens 9-14 September, 2002, ‘The Introduction and diffusion of Atwood's machine in Japan', SIC XXIII Newport News 9-14 September30-October4, 2003, ‘Scientists who delivered entertaining lectures' (The Journal of Science Education, 2003-2004), subsequently Scientists who delivered entertaining lectures with scientific instruments was could publish, 2004.
