Research Abstract |
By using a pen input device, we developed and evaluated the teaching materials which small children can easily operate at PC. And supporting a teacher, poor at operation of a computer, we researched into the method for promoting computerization of kindergarten education. While taking in the opinion of teachers of a kindergarten, we designed and prototyped the software which operates on a notebook PC with a pen tablet display, and a plasma display with a touch panel in 2002. Since many kindergartners enjoyed operating 8 softwares using a pen, it turned out that a pen input device is effective in PC operation of a small child. However, it turned out that it is necessary to search operation of the software suitable for a pen input device. In 2003, we investigated the operativity of the software which was made last year. Moreover, we created and evaluated the new software which can automatically move the subject of operation. About operativity, we thought of the poking operation (tap) and the pulling operation (drag). About these operations, we analyzed and reported operativity of second-year class's kindergarteners and third-year class's kindergarteners, in big screen environment and notebook PC environment. From the observations of the kindergarteners operating these softwares, it turned out that a vertical movement is difficult for a kindergartener when he uses the pulling operation, and that a kindergartener is interested in the software which can automatically move the subject of operation. When research was begun, there were many kindergarteners bewildered by PC operation, and many teachers were negative to use of a PC. However, the number of kindergarteners bewildered by PC operation decreases in the end of research, and teachers also use a PC positively. Therefore, I think that promotion of computerization was achieved by this research.
