Research Abstract

申請者の発見した有機フェリ磁性体PNNBNOの磁性に現われた量子性を検証するために、類縁化合物の磁気相互作用の検討を行った。
S=1とS=1/2を仲介するベンゼン環をビフェニル環で置換したBIPNNBNOはフェリ磁性鎖を形成するが、ビフェニル環の大きな二面角のために、最近接のフェリ磁性鎖間のみならず次近接鎖間にも相互作用が生じた。その結果スピンフラストレーションが誘起され、磁化率に特異なピークとショルダーを示した。強磁場磁化測定では、飽和磁化(3μ_B)の1/3に磁化プラトーを生じ、これはS=1とS=1/2のフェリ磁性構造に帰属される。これに加え、25T近傍に極めて幅の狭い2/3磁化プラトーが観測された。これはスピンフラストレーションの効果と考えられる。遍歴メタ磁性体のスピンフラストレーション系でも同様の現象が観測されている。BIPNNBNO単結晶を用いた、Xバンド電子スピン共鳴の実験を、角度・温度を変化させながら測定した。g因子の温度依存性は4Kで屈曲したが、この屈曲点は、磁化率が鋭いピークを示した4Kと一致している。スピンフラストレーションによって特異なスピン状態が発現していると考えられる。BIPNNBNOは4Tのスピンギャップを有するが、6Tまでの狭い磁場範囲で1μ_Bに達する。磁場誘起相転移の有無を比熱測定により18Tまで検証したが、相転移は観測されなかった。b軸方向にフェリ磁性鎖が形成され、鎖間相互作用がa軸方向に働くが、分子長軸方向の二次元シート間の相互作用が極めて弱いことを示していると思われる。
PNNBNO, BIPNNBNOはともに軸対称な分子骨格をしており、いずれもフェリ磁性鎖の形成が観測された。S=1/2として非対称なイミノニトロキシドを用いたPIMBNOは、二次元的な結晶構造を形成した。S=1同士、S=1/2同士の相互作用により、磁気相転移は観測されていない。
