Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
From April 2016 to August 2016, Dr. O'Day did 4 months of ethnographic fieldwork and continued working with NG0s, Fukushima evacuees and activists working on the related issues. He worked with a group mothers who have evacuated from Fukushima to Tokyo with their children, a group of mothers who remained in Fukushima after the nuclear accident, a group of volunteers that identify themselves as “supporters” of those evacuees, a peace movement of women called “Mothers Against War”, and another student peace and pro-democracy movement called Student Emergency Action for Liberal Democracy (SEALDs). In addition, Dr. O'Day also engaged in participant observation research at political demonstrations, community events, and by volunteering in some disaster reconstruction projects.
