Outline of Annual Research Achievements

外来種は侵入先の環境で素早く適応進化することが知られているが、このような外来種の適応進化が、外来種の侵略性やその防除・管理とどのように関連しているのか、またその適応進化の遺伝的背景はどのようにものなのか、に関してはほとんど解明されていなかった。そこで本研究では、北米から侵入した外来植物のブタクサ・オオブタクサと、ブタクサの天敵であるブタクサハムシを対象に、侵入後の適応進化過程、適応進化が侵略性や防除に与える影響、そしてその遺伝的背景を明らかにすることを目的に研究をおこなった。
ブタクサハムシは日本に侵入後、原産地では利用できなかったオオブタクサを利用していることが報告されている。申請者らは、昨年度、侵入地の日本ではブタクサに加えオオブタクサをも餌として利用できるように行動的・生理的に進化していることを解明した。本年度は、行動・生理的な形質以外に、形態形質に着目し、ブタクサよりも葉が硬いオオブタクサへの適応に伴って大あごの形態等が変化している可能性を検証した。その結果、たしかに硬い食草に適応するときに見られるパターンと一致する結果が見られた。
それに加え、ブタクサハムシは、日本を含むアジア各国、オーストラリア、そして最近ではヨーロッパに侵入し分布を急速に拡大させつつある。そこで、その侵入経路の推定、侵入先の各地への局所適応、そして分布拡大に伴う急速な進化の遺伝的背景を検証するため、海外の研究者と協力し、各国に侵入したブタクサハムシのサンプルを採集した。これらのサンプルは、次世代シーケンサーによって全個体ジェノタイピングが行われる予定である。
