Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I conducted the in-progress research on impact evaluation of transport infrastructure. The focus of study area is primary in China. I revised two manuscripts (joint work) on the impact evaluation of China's highway network. One of the manuscripts was finally accepted by "Papers in Regional Science (accepted on Sept. 8, 2015)" and another one is now under third round review at "Journal of Regional Science". In May 2015, I was invited to give a presentation at Hunan University (China) on my highway projects.
In addition, I finished another two papers (joint work) on Japanese economy and the impact of transport infrastructure. And I am invited to give a presentation at Urban Economics Association Annual Meeting at Portland (OR) on November 13, 2015. The research is on the impact evaluation of Shinkansen construction on Japan's population dynamics.
The transport infrastructure is a very important project related to public finance. On the one hand, the investment on such kinds of infrastructure is generally huge, thus a careful investigation of its social return is important to have a balanced public finance. On the other hand, transport cost is a key factor cost for both goods production/trade (agricultural and manufacturing goods) and people's daily costs (commute cost, cross-regional travel cost) , investment on transport infrastructure is a good way to improve social productivity.
