Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、CMB偏光観測を行うための望遠鏡GroundBIRDを開発し、インフレーションモデルに観測的な制限をつけることを目的としている。インフレーション起源の痕跡を検出するためには、空の広い範囲の測定が必要である。検出器は時間がたつとベースラインがドリフトしてしまうため(~10秒)、望遠鏡をいかに速く振り回せるかが鍵となる。そこで申請者は、望遠鏡を回転台の上に載せて回転させながらの観測を計画している。現在、観測サイトとしてはスペイン領カナリア諸島のテイデ観測所を考えている。3年目にあたる本年度は、GroundBIRD望遠鏡内部の検出器固定治具の開発と、検出器の読み出し回路、望遠鏡を回転台に固定するための架台の作成を行った。
本年度前半は、250mKに冷却する超伝導検出器を、望遠鏡の光学系の焦点面部分に固定するための治具の開発をした。250mKまでの冷却は吸着式冷凍機を用いて行うが、冷却能力は3μWしかないため、固定治具の熱伝導を低く抑えることが重要になる。そこで、ケブラー糸を用いてその固定を行った。ケブラーは金属ではないので熱伝導が低い。一方で、糸のため引っ張ることしかできない。申請者は、専用の治具を作り、この問題を克服した。実際に冷却し、250mK以下の状態を維持して光の検出をすることができた。
後半は、検出器の読み出しシステムの開発を行った。昨年までは、一つの装置で64個までしか超伝導検出器の応答を読み出せなかったが、120個までの同時読み出しができるように改良した。これにより、一通りの要素開発が終了した。
これと並行して、業者とやりとりをしながら、望遠鏡を載せる架台の製作を行った。望遠鏡は500kg以上あり、これを分速20回転で回しながら観測を行う。架台は年度内に完成し、望遠鏡と組み合わせた状態で回転テストもクリアした。
以上で、観測に必要な望遠鏡開発は一通り終了した。
