Research Abstract |
As the final results of this project, we organized the International Symposium on "The World of Transnational Asian Americans" on September 3-4, 2005 on the Komaba campus of the University of Tokyo. On September 3, 2005 the session was open to the public with simultaneous translation. In this session, Professors Daizaburo Yui, Henry Yu, Kazuo Yoshihara and Eui-Young Yu gave talks focusing on the general pictures of Asian American immigrants. On September 4, 2005 the sessions were held as the specialist meeting spoken in English only. In the morning session Professors Robert Lee, Eiichiro Azuma, Izumi Hirobe gave talks on the historical process of Asian immigrants. In the afternoon session Professors Mari Sekiguchi, Hideki Harajiri, Miya Suga and Hiroko Furuya gave talks focusing on the present situations of Asian immigrants in the USA. This symposium would be the first meeting in which almost all ethnic groups of Asian Americans were analyzed. The English Proceedings were published at the end of March 2006.
