Research Abstract |
This research project was conducted for four years to focus on the following four themes. The results outlined below were achieved. 1. Development of quantitative analysis technique of documents related to tales and phenomena of the "strange" utilized the folk horror culture database: We developed and researched of quantitative analysis technique of date related to religion and belief. We utilized the folk horror culture database in Nichibunken. 2. Data collection and classification of cases about folk horror culture: We collected documents of tales and phenomena of the "strange" from folklore essays, for example "Nihon Densetsu (日本伝説体系)"(all 17 volumes, Mizuumi Shobo 1982-90), and Japanese districts history books. We referred to folk horror culture database and produced the manual for Japanese districts history books. The number of cards on individual cases reached 6625. 3. Collection of documents, visual materials related to tales and phenomena of the "strange": We collected documents and visual materials about ghosts and monsters all periods and all regions in Japan. To broaden the limits of this investigation, we collected illustrated books of exhibitions about ghost and monster, and pictures (Emakimono, Ukiyoe, Kibyoshi, etc.). 4. Construction of trial model of horror visual materials database : Our collections of visual materials about monster and ghost were transcribed to digital memory and an indexing software was developed for it.
