Research Abstract |
Through the project, a suite of benchmark problems has been established on the world wide web site to allow the mutual comparison of computational accuracy and efficiency of various methods on acoustics, i.e. finite difference method, finite element method, boundary element method, and so on. In 2003 financial year, as the first stage of the project, the platform were designed to consist of 25 problems that are classified into three-categories, "A.exterior," "B.interior" and "C.structural," with two domains, "frequency" and "time." Additionally, "Task" is also available to make further expansion easier. With the workstations that provide organized computational environments for the project members, several trial computations were carried out to give comparable data as to be contents of the platform. The outline of the activity and results of the project were summarized and submitted as papers to international conferences, ICA and RADS, to be held in spring 2004. Then, in 2004 financial year, further computations on the 10 problems were carried out and several problems were refined. Contents, i.e. computed results in downloadable Excel-format files, were also added and refined to make the platform useful. At the end of the financial year, European professors, P.Svensson and S.Marburg, were invited and a symposium on the project was held to discuss about both the project and computational acoustics. Finally, in 2005 financial year, transient analysis, interior problem in a convention hall and interior problem in a regularly shaped reverberation room, were examined and added as to be included in the benchmark problems. Then, a forum was held on the project, and at the forum five presentations were given by people from various companies, i.e. electrical, consulting, general contractor and soft-wear, to discuss about the availability of computational acoustics in their field works.
