The purposes of this project were to establish the method for bone structural analysis, using morphological filter based on mathematical morphology, histo-pathological bone morphometry and an attempt the development of the mapping sheet for evaluating bone-quality of the jaw bone. We planed to develop a bone quality evaluation system.
We developed the bone quality evaluation system by using the following ;
1)We detected bone trabecular structure as skeletal patterns derived from two-dimensional images using skeleton operation based on morphological filter. These patterns were evaluated quantitatively by using bone morphometric indices (Sk.Ar,Sk.Pm,Sk.Th,Sk.N,Sk.Sp,FD,MIL,TBPf,N.Nd,N.CtNd, etc.).
2)To obtain ideal standard for the two-dimensional images, we used three-dimensional bone structure analysis. According to the results, we determined optimal parameters for this analysis.
3)We made the bone quality evaluation mapping sheet, for recording skeleton structure, bone strength (sectional quadratic moment) and bone mineral density index (BMD).
4)We applied this system using digital dental radiography to evaluation bone quality on the osteoporotic model of the cynomolgus monkeys. And clinical images evaluated are ; cyst, tumor, and dental implant, etc.
5)Bone structure evaluation system for diagnosis and detecting therapy effect of the jaw disease, based on clinical typical diagnostic images was completed.
This system has acquired a patent(No.3799603).
