Research Abstract |
With the questionnaire, we carried out investigation for outpatients with cancer who attend an Esophago-Gastro-Intestinal Surgery Clinic in University Hospital as a study field. Life situation : 58.0% of the subjects could deal with fear of recurrence and 59.0% could deal with suffering with disease and treatment. Decision making of treatment : 73.4% could make a decision for one's intention, 23.4% were not. Nurses of outpatients department : 47.2% felt close to these nurses, 42.1% felt that these nurses understood the patient. 10.1% felt to get support for problem solving from these nurses, and 56.5% felt to get support for decision-making from these nurses. On the basis of the above-mentioned results, we devised nursing intervention to apply nursing model to help independent living of outpatients with cancer to a study field. And we adjusted the devised nursing intervention so that it would suitable for each existing system. In addition, we held learning opportunity for outpatient department nurses to improve their clinical ability. We performed the devised nursing intervention for 1 year, and after that, we carried out investigation using questionnaire for the evaluation. Life situation : 68.5% of the subjects could deal with fear of recurrence and 66.5% could deal with suffering with disease and treatment. Decision making of treatment : 85.8% could make a decision for one's intention, 15.3% were not. Nurses of outpatients department : 60.3% felt close to these nurses, 64.7% felt that these nurses understood the patient. 42.5% felt to get support for problem solving from these nurses, and 58.3% felt to get support for decision-making from these nurses. The results revealed an improvement of evaluation.
