Research Abstract |
This research survey is planned to be a part of research surveys on Asian native livestock. The Kingdom of Bhutan is situated on the southern slopes of the Eastern Himalayas. It is a land locked between China in the north and India to the east, south and west. Its physical features are characterized by high, rugged mountains and an intricate network of deep valleys and rejected an invader from neighboring countries. As a results of preliminary survey at July of 2003, it was confirmed that an abundance of genetic resources of native livestocks and its related wild species are ranged through the mountains and border areas. First research survey : June 15-30,2004. Participant : Y.Yamamoto, K.Nomura, M.Nishibori, T.Yamagata, Y.Takahashi, M.Kurachi and two Bhutanese scientists 1)Survey areas : middle and southern part of Bhutan (Bumthang, Zhemgang, Sarpan, and Phunakha) 2)No.of surveyed animals : cattle:23、water buffalo:18、goat:24、chicken:40、mithan:3、junglefowl:0、suncus:8 Second research survey

Gene frequencies for each species were estimated from the results for morphological traits, blood groups, protein polymorphisims. DNA analysis are still continueing at each laboratory in Japan. Less
