Research Abstract |
It has been clarified that neuron in adult brain can regenerate. However, the precise mechanism still unclear. First the neural stem cells proliferate and differenciate to gial cells and neuron by the several neurotrophic factors and inducer factors to matures cells. We have been studied about several neurodegeneration models. These are spinal cord injury, ischemic neuronal death, and epilepsy. From the early period of injury, neuronal stem cells proliferate. These cells can differentiate to glia and neuron, thus these are called as multipotent projenitor cells. In order to clarify these process, we studied nestin, neuronal projenitor cell marker, expression after the insult. According to the expression of each cells marker protein, we first detected the regeneration and activation of astrocytes, oligodendrocyte, and finally microglia. Even after microglial activation, neuronal cells begin to regenerate. In spinal cord contusion injury models we have detected the regeneration of radial glial cells. These cells mainly are observed in the embryonic stages, but are downregulated after birth. However, we detected these cells after injury, and neuron and astroglia can be produced from radial glia. The precise regulation of this process will be clarified.
