Research Abstract |
This research examined the state of distance learning mainly from the standpoint of the interaction design in the lifelong learning for an adult (especially middle-aged and the elderly). The concrete item is as follows. 1) Investigation on the existing distance learning (e-learning) system concerning the elements related to a human interface design, management, the effect, and evaluation of distant education and virtual class room, such as the concept, the educational method, a technical base, future possibilities, learning support, a result, the interaction between learners, and the contribution to the personnel training. 2) Classification and modeling of a distance learning (e-learning) system. 3) Prototyping a distance learning system based on the "Internet-citizen-private-school engine" and its human interface design which centered on media communication functions, study contents, an interaction style. 4) Installation of the actual contents into the prototyping system, and their experimental use in the university education environment and local lifelong learning environment. 5) Experimental use of teleconference systems between Okinawa-Tokushima, between Honolulu-Tokushima, between Kochi-Toyama-New York Tokushima. 6) Data collection about activities of the senior networks in Japan (Okinawa, Hiroshima, Kagawa, Ehime, Kochi, Tokushima, etc.). 7) Data collection about the broadcast-type remote educational system using a satellite etc. From these results, the necessity for various tuning (optimization) of the distance learning system for lifelong learning became clear from the sides, such as 1) dialog function (a teacher, an attendance student, and attendance students), 2) evaluation of study result for real-time feedback, 3) learner's information literacy support, 4) support for teachers to digitize the teaching-materials, and 5) management of student attendance.
