Research Abstract |
We developed necessary teaching system for utilizing the Internet-access environment in EFL as well as applied it in our classes. A wide variety of results of testing for student's abilities are collected. We also evaluated the techniques and achievement on the course management system (CMS) we made so far to develop more effective language learning environment for both teachers and learners. We especially focused on creating the learning assisting system which consists of computer network and software to enhance learner's interactive communication. 1.We installed XOOPS, a CMS system, to manage learning material and its users. We also upgraded our existing server software to run the CMS effectively. 2.Wiki and Movable Type, a blogging system, are introduced as additional CMS. We evaluate and compare the efficiency of the three CMS systems. 3.We developed web-based language learning material based on a series of textbooks with an allowance of the publisher. 4.We developed CGI-based tutoring system on English writing, named WebNotebook, which works with an in-house database system. 5.Some techniques to utilize blogging system for teaching writing and categorical tutoring were developed. 6.We gave placement tests to approximately 1,500 EFL learners to collect a wide variety of data on their abilities. 7.Some parts of the research and development were presented at many conferences such as FLEAT 5 at Brigham Young University, US.
