Research Abstract |
The purpose of my study is to approach a Japanese history of botany based on herbalists' own notes of collecting herbs in the field "採薬記". My approach is important because previous studys on this subject often depend only on herbalists' aruticles, i.e. secondary souurces. Eventually my study lead me to understanding the eary modern history of academic discipline in Japan. Since these reports became an essencial source of "Honzogaku", knouledge about herbs in Japan. Numerous herbalists made their own hand-written copies of the reports. Among the reports, I investigated into ONO Ranzan's Repots and YAMAMOTO Boyo's Reports as well as their various versions of the copies. I have clarified how these reports were written and which zersions of copies were further copied.
