Shigeki Nakamura is considered a representative Japanese philosopher of early in the Meiji era. He is known as a man who has contributed to the moral education based on Confucianisms. However, he was no ordinary narrow-minded nationalist. Many translations such as on history, philosophy, education, economics, politics and natural science etc. were published by him through his struggle with English. He was engaged in enlightenment movement for modernization of Japan. Certainly, he is on of the most encyclopedic highbrow in Japan.
