Research Abstract |
At the middle of early modern, four intellects in Kamigata area have wrote the abridgements (reading notes) of Chinese classics, such as Sawada Issai "Keigisai Zosho" (National Diet Library), Okuda Shosai "Sekkodonissan" (Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library), and "Sekkodozassho" (National Diet Library), Tuga Teisho "Kamokusho" (Tenri Central Library), and Morikawa Chikuso "Kokosaihikki" ( Ryukoku University Academic Center). The purpose of this study is an investigation of those whole 137 abridgements. In the "Sekkodonissan" and "Sekkodozassho", Shosai wrote in many important informations that the Chinese classic texts include the titles, numbers of volume, authors, the authors for preface, published date, imported date, and the owners of those texts. These informations contain high qualities, and it is worth taking a survey from the point of this research subject. Through the three years investigation, I visited many libraries which possessed Min-Sin Chinese classics to collate the abridgements written by Shosai or the others with the Min-Sin Chinese which had been imported into Japan. On this research project report, I made the annotated informations in order and classified by every each abridgement. This is a first time that its information is made published. By Shosai's annotated bibliography, we can describe that what kind of critical editions were imported. From that research work, it proved that many Chinese classics were introduced to Japan beyond the expectations in the middle of early modern in Kamigata. It also indicated that the interchange of among the intellects of Osaka liberal arts, like Shosai, Chikuso, Teisho, Kimura Kenkado, and Oka Hakku etc. It proved that Shosai and the other intellects played an important role in the society of Kamigata humanity.
