Research Abstract |
1.Constructing Corpora-International Conference (IEEE 2002) The researchers, 1)presented an in-depth analysis of texts obtained from the International Conference IEEE (2002, in Osaka), 2)constructed a corpus related to IEEE electric data, 3)engaged in meaningful discussions concerning the ramifications of corpora studies with academics and researchers in the field. 2.Genre Analysis The researchers, 1)analyzed lexical and grammatical structures related to construction of text 2)located specific examples of rhetorical devices related to text construction, 3)initiated a pilot study of rhetorical patterns on some selected texts. 3.Collecting Materials The researchers, 1)conducted a survey of corporate language training programs both in-house and outsourced, 2)collected materials written in English in other fields than those related to the international conference. Data obtained from the analysis of texts and the survey will serve as support for the description and creation of meaningful texts and practical language training programs. 4.Development of Listening Material The researchers generated a series of aural/oral materials for the purpose of training in receptive and productive skills of English Upgraded version is currently under discussion. 5.ESP and Instruction The researchers of this study maintain that effective language training programs need to continue to bridge the gap between description and practice, and also to activate learners in the classroom for a better understanding of the practice. In order to accomplish this goal, language training programs need to be informed by the findings and methodology of ESP and genre analysis.
