Research Abstract |
In incipient stage of Kofun period (3ed to 4th century A.D.), pots used characteristic clay and with typological features, named Kibi type, Sanuki type, Higasi-Awa type, Shounai-Kawati type, Syounai-Yamato type, and so on, were produced at some regions in western Japan. They were characterized by thin walls and standardization. The aim of this study is to recognize production and distribution of these pots. Especially, the cennter of manufacture, the rise and fall of production, and the extent and scale of distribution. In research report, according to distoribution of Kibi type pot, 603samples from 176sites.I examine traffic route in incipient stage of Kofun period. The result indicates that main route from Northern Kyusyu to Yamato (Nara) was through the Seto Inland Sea, Osaka Bay and the old Yamato River, and it had some hub sites.
