Research Abstract |
(1) In order to understand the current situation concerning Newborn Hearing Screening, we have conducted an investigation on its implementation and after-care. a) We conducted a survey of care-takers at day-care centers for hearing impaired children in Osaka prefecture, and summarized its results. b) We investigated the situation concerning screening test implementation in Hokkaido and administered a questionnaire to mothers, whose children were found to be hearing impaired. c) We interviewed the mothers, whose children were tested hearing impaired soon after their birth, in half-structured interview setting and summarized its results. (2) We have translated a video "Early intervention: Illustrated the Family-centered Approach for Supporting Families with Babies who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing", which introduces "Colorado Home Visiting Early Intervention Program" in Colorado, U.S.A. (3) We joined Tokyo state Otsuka School for the deaf and co-published booklets for families of new born children, who are categorized as "refer" by the screening test. (4) We organized a symposium, called "Think about the Newborn Hearing Screening", and published its report and distributed it to related institutions. (5) We organized a conference, called "After-care of parents in Newborn Hearing Screening" and invited Mr. Teruo Kijima from the Otsuka School for the Deaf Early Educational Support Center.
