Research Abstract |
Recently in Japan, there have been consecutive problems with parental disabilities in childcare and teaching them manners. The purpose of this study is to develop some effective educational programs for parents in perspective of their life-long development, that is, they grow into parents as they go from school age to advanced age. The following are the results of my research questionnaires on parent support /education to 399 city boards of education and 327 city offices in Japan. Results shows that ; 1)Although many city boards of education take care of parents of early schoolchildren or teenagers, city offices, on the other hand, take care of mothers of infants or preschoolers. They, however, intend to promote the education in other stages such as early adulthood (pre-parental age) or in middle age and beyond, 2)Instead of dual control, city boards of education and city offices are beginning to be cooperate with and share effective management, and ; 3)in order to enhance educational power in regional society, it is thought to be important that educational administration should take a critical role to connect the home, school and regional society. From the research results, the following framework could be set up horizontally for effective parent education ; 1)pre-parental stage : junior high school / high school age (adolescence) 2)parental growth stage : expectant mothers / parent of infants and preschoolers, teenagers, 3)parents of grown-ups or early adults. Vertically these three stages are : 1)learning of parental knowledge and skills 2)activities for parents' companionship or friendship with each other ; and 3)supporting young parents or fostering volunteer or leaders of the next generation.
