Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to create a new educational environment in higher education by using the recent information technology. Especially, considering the utilization in medical education, we constructed the information infrastructure for education that combines the WBT(Web Based Training) and the video streaming technique. We made a lot of electronic teaching materials that are utilized in the environment and evaluated the usefulness in the education. As the software for the WBT, we used the WebCT(Web Course Tools) software that was started to develop at the British Colombia University in Canada and used worldwide at present. Two video streaming servers were set up in order to send MEG1 movies inside and outside the Kyushu University, School of Medicine. More than ten WebCT courses were made in the field of radiological technology, medical technology and nursing. In the "Basic nursing skills" course, more than thirty original videos were contained and the students can see the videos on their computer displays via computer network. The WebCT courses were used in the lecture and practices at our school and evaluated their educational effectiveness by the questionnaires to the students. The "Basic nursing skills" course in which the students see the videos repeatedly and write reports on the computer, could give the motivation of the positive and subjective study to the students and it was assessed veiy useful. An online examination was performed in the "Human Microscopic Anatomy" course, showing the microscopic images on the students' computer displays. This kind of the examination was well received by the students, because they could know their achievements immediately after they sent their answers. As mentioned above, the utilization of the WBT to the education in medicine was popular with the students, and gave them the motivation to study.
