Research Abstract |
Centimeter sized airplane without engine and controlling device can be flown by laser from ground. Power can be supplied by laser ablation based laser irradiation. Many paper-airplanes are thrown to the sky driven by lasers, and the location and absorption rate of carbon dioxide in the air can be measured simultaneously with another laser, where the three dimensional measuring method of carbon dioxide distribution would be established. It can offer supervisory method of the greenhouse gas emission reduction that executes into action from 2008 by the Kyoto protocol. We have already succeeded in one shot laser driving of paper-airplane by 0.5W laser power, first time in the world and also in continuous pulses. This system can make the generated driving force over thousand times larger than former system. This idea was proposed by Yabe in 1976,and recently it receives worldwide attention because using only water must be friendly to environment. 1.Three dimensional simulation Since our former technique that uses metal target is in danger of affecting environment by exerting of metal gas, we developed new Water Film Cannon(WFC) target that uses only the water membrane. Furthermore, the plasma generation process based on the laser absorption was added to the three dimensional simulation code that uses the CIP method and then we succeeded in optimizing a design of target structure. 2.Examination of pursuit method Examination of lens and sensor systems was carried out in order to pursue and control the movement of airplane. 3.High propulsion efficiency of micro airplane Aiming toward small-sized and high propulsion efficiency of micro airplane, the basic experiments of the WFC target were conducted. Experimental results were reproduced by the numerical simulations to analyze the phenomenon, and the water film thickness can be optimized to get high efficiency of propulsion.
