Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Synthesis and purification of several classes of chiral perylene diimide (highly colored pigments) including amionic and cationic compounds was completed. Physical properties of the compounds were investigated revealing their assembly into chiral structures in solutions and formation of cholesteric liquid crystals in aqueous solvent mixtures. The effects of solvent and concentration were investigated. The liquid crystal compounds were applied in NMR experiments for the determination of enantiomeric excess. Chiral self-assemblies of the materials were metallated forming chiral coordination complexes suitable for possible catalytic applications.Two manuscripts in preparation.
