| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project, entitled Simulation, Prediction and Society: The Politics of Forecasting,is an attempt to unpack social processes and social dynamics that exist at the intersection of the science of forecasting and society. Scholars in this project have dealt a range of topics such as earthquake prediction, simulation programs used for epidemic prediction, economic forecasting models, etc so as to unpack social processes that are involving the black boxed methodologies used for forecasting, and social tensions created by gaps between what science can and what society expects.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
予測科学について学術的な注目が国内外で集まり始めている中、本課題は多様な事例と多層的観点かの予測と社会の問題について本格的調査に先鞭をつけたという点で、学術的な貢献があると考える。また、自然科学研究者を含む異分野の研究者(科学社会学，科学人類学，科学政策，科学史，社会心理学，地震学)が高次の背景知識を前提として、本格的な学際研究を実施したという点においても学術（特に学際研究）への貢献ができたと考える。また本課題を通し、予測科学の個別性と限界を明らかにでき、その上で予測科学に対する盲信と不信の両極端を排除する必要性を述べる事ができたのは、社会的にも意味のある研究成果となった。
