This research tried to analayze: 1) how the organizations of Japanese higher education institutions are characterized from international perspectives, 2)how the organizational structure is associated with social and economic contexts,
and 3) what are the necessary conditions for transforming the organizational structures and the professoriate. For that purpose, the teacm undertook case studies of national and private universities, analyses of institutional characteristics based on a database, and international comparisons.
