| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the past three years we conducted interviews, organized workshops, held meetings, and collected related materials. In the end, we had a renewed understanding of the role played by the Democratic Progressive Party in the transitional period in Taiwan. We also reached conclusion that our hypothesis on the course of development of the Democratic Progressive Party has been affirmed. As the DPP grew up as the party of the Taiwanese nationalism, the confrontation of identities became an everlasting characteristic of the Taiwanese politics. It lacked an adequate design for democratic institutions, and the structure of Taiwanese party politics contained unstabilizing elements within.
