Outline of Final Research Achievements

An electric power network is a man-made system for delivering electrical energy from producers to consumers. Due to high penetration of renewable resources such as solar and wind, and to occurrence of wide-area disturbances such as Hokkaido in 2018, it was required to explore new principle and methodology for operation of power networks. The purpose of this project was to explore a data-centric approach to the operation of power networks, especially, based on massive quantity of data collected with Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). The novelty of this project was to focus on the so-called Koopman Mode Analysis (KMA) that was a novel technique of nonlinear time-series analysis and was guided by the rigor mathematical theory of nonlinear dynamical systems. This project proposed novel methodology and tool for monitoring and control the stability in synchronization of power networks based on KMA of PMU data and for learning the voltage dynamics based on single-bus measurement.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で得られた結果はいずれも,電力ネットワークで取得されたデータを全面に活用した運用技術に資するものである。このようなデータを全面に活用した運用技術の研究は,従来の物理モデルをベースとした運用が難しい状況,例えば,不確定性を有する再生可能エネルギー源が大量導入された小規模電力ネットワーク(マイクログリッド)や大規模停電に至るような極限的環境下にある電力ネットワークに対して,運用に関する新しい指針を与えるものである。このような複雑電力ネットワークに対するシステム構築に資する本研究は,AIを含むデータサイエンスとの接点から学術的意義を有し,エネルギーの安定供給に資する観点から社会的意義を有する。
