Outline of Annual Research Achievements

最終年度である本年度では、昨年までの理論研究から得られた予測についてシロアリを用いて実証すること、そして得られた成果を論文として発表することを目的とした。
理論研究の結果、オスとメスの両方が互いを探索する配偶者探索において、雌雄が異なる動き方で探索すると最適な戦略になり得ることを発見した(Mizumoto et al. 2017, Journal of the Royal Society Interface)。この理論予測を、ヤマトシロアリとイエシロアリの2種を用いて検証した。シロアリの歩行による配偶者探索において、一度ペアになったオスとメスがはぐれた場合に、メスがその場にとどまり、オスが辺りを歩行探索するという動きの性差が観察された。また、歩行パターンの性差が、この状況において再遭遇確率の上昇に寄与することを示した。理論予測のとおり、雌雄で異なる動きのパターンと相互探索の最適化が結びつく例を発見できた。
更に、誘引シグナルの存在下における配偶者探索では、異性を検出できる距離の性差が大きい場合に、動きの性差も大きくなるという理論予測(Mizumoto and Dobata 2018, Scientific Reports)も検証した。シロアリの歩行パターンの性差には種間差が見られ、フェロモンの性質により、異性を検出できる距離の性差が大きいヤマトシロアリでは、その距離の性差の小さいイエシロアリと比べて、はぐれた際の動きの性差が大きかった。以上の結果は、生物の最適なランダム探索戦略を考える上で、実際の状況を詳細に想定することの必要性を強調した点で重要な成果であり、現在国際学術誌に投稿中である。
また、これまでの研究成果を多くの論文として発表することができた。共同研究の成果を含め、6つの論文が国際誌に掲載された。複数の国内の学術誌にも研究成果の解説記事を執筆した。
