Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We conducted series of measurements of quasi-elastic neutron scattering for dense hydrous magnesium silicate phase E. These were made several times during this period until February 2017. The sample with about 250 mg in total mass was successfully synthesized at 15 GPa pressure by using Kawai-type apparatus at Okayama University. The measurement was conducted at DNA spectrometer at J-PARC. The method was applied for observing hydrogen diffusion in atomic scale in the host mineral structure. We measured it at variable temperature ranges up to 480 K. We successfully observed local motions of hydrogen in the crystal structure of phase E. On the other hand, I also joined several conferences. I presented my results of structure refinements for hydrous ringwoodite and hydrous wadsleyite. The result for hydrous wadsleyite by single crystal neutron diffraction has been published in Scientific Reports in 2016 October. The result for hydrous ringwoodite by single crystal neutron diffraction (obtained previously in 2015 at TOPAZ spectrometer at Spallation Neutron Source, Oak Ridge National Laboratory) has been analyzed and also presented in these conferences. Finally I wrote my Ph.D dissertation and submitted it in early March.
